Ayacucho Tapestry

This type weaving requires the use of a double-pedalled loom. Tapestry designs are traditionally geometric in nature, copied from local stone temple carvings and Codices. The name is derived from the fact that they were initially woven in Santa Ana, a suburb of the city of Ayacucho which is located in South/Central Peru. The unique colors used to dye the yarn are derived from mostly local natural sources, the actual ingredients and process used are closely guarded family secrets.
